For the most comprehensive list of answers to Frequently asked questions, please review the official FAQ. You can also find help to common problems by using the Troubleshooting Guide
============================================================
Q. What is DSO?

Terracotta DSO is advanced distributed-computing technology aimed at meeting special clustering requirements.

============================================================
Q. Do I need DSO to run a Terracotta Server Array?

No. Terracotta products without the overhead and complexity of DSO meet the needs of almost every use case and clustering requirement. The standard Terracotta Server Array is faster, simpler, more flexible, and has many more features than DSO. To find documentation on non-DSO (standard) Terracotta products, see the Terracotta Documentation.

============================================================
Q. What should I do if I'm already using DSO?

If you are already using DSO but would like to migrate to standard Terracotta products, see Migrating From Terracotta DSO.

- why Terracotta does not pretend to replace all those "enterprise and DB" frameworks?
- why Terracotta is being killed by its own company? From the terracotta.org home page you'll get to BigMem, EhAche, Quartz and other bullshit but not DSO specifications. When you get to DSO in some secret areas of this site, every page will tell you that you do not need Terracotta and better go with all the other stuff. You cannot access the free, open source project documentation as described. I'm trying your Getting Started as recommended in FAQ - not permitted even for registered users.
- how DGC works and why it does not decrement live objects, nor frees disk space?
- why Terracotta says that it supports HashMap but not LinkedList nor TreeMap? Do you mean, you need to X-ray their structure for instrumentation? But what does it mean that java.util.HashMap is JVM specific? Why must the keys fit the JVM memory?
- Why not to cache the uncommitted objects?

If you are trying to access DSO docs on the Confluence wiki, please try again and if any links are still not available, post the specific URLs.

Today, things seem have changed. Instead of "not permitted", for both http://www.terracotta.org/confluence/display/orgsite/Download and http://www.terracotta.org/confluence/display/orgsite/Start+Using+Terracotta I see "not found" page with full Terracotta DSO documentation. This is much better. But, it is not what we want, right?

Small details: Two troubleshooting links lead to another "not found" page, which lists the troubleshooting guides. I suppose that you wanted to be more specific differentiating between TCNonPortableObjectError and UnlockedSharedObjectException. I do not care about Integrations, but its "not found" page is empty.

I'm not sure where you're getting those URLs, but they are very old. Those pages haven't been used/updated in years. The latest Terracotta clustering docs are here:

Good joke

1. What is the point of having a misleading FAQ?
2. your terracotta/docs has DSO section but it does not let you to download the eclipse plugin (it does not even mention that it exists), it does not tell anything about java-dso command, nothing about roots and synchronize keywords to share objects in transactions. Instead, it discusses to BigMem, Ehache, Quartz, and etc.

The best I could find in http://terracotta.org/documentation is a link to those, outdated in 2010, links to DSO 3.6. So, I can just repeat my key question:

Why Terracotta is being killed by its own company? From the terracotta.org home page you'll get to BigMem, EhAche, Quartz and other bullshit but not DSO specifications. When you get to DSO in some secret areas of this site, every page will tell you that you do not need Terracotta and better go with all the other stuff. My apologies, I didn't see that FAQ, just your postings. Now I've looked at it and you're right, it's badly out of date. I will let an admin know about that.

Just to clarify, Terracotta != DSO. DSO is a specific technology that could be used with the Terracotta Server Array. There may be specific use cases for DSO, but it is not the best tool for the vast majority of use cases (for performance, reliability, ease of integration, flexibility, etc.). The Terracotta Server Array now uses a much improved object-distribution scheme.

But if you do find that your needs require DSO, the DSO docs are -- as you may have found -- here:
